Elke maandelijkse update belichten we een trending topic dat van invloed is op de wereldwijde zeevrachtmarkt.
From mounting congestion on the Asia–Europe tradelane and weather-related port closures in China, to new geopolitical risks in the Red Sea and shifting US trade policies – disruptions are piling up across regions. Even though freight rates are falling, volatility in schedules, infrastructure and regulation continues to challenge reliability. In this Market Update we highlight the latest developments shaping global logistics and what they mean for shippers in the months ahead.
CAROZ’s eye opener:
The global logistics landscape is once again defined by uncertainty. Congestion is mounting across key Asia–Europe ports, inland bottlenecks are straining capacity, and extreme weather has disrupted operations in China just as Golden Week begins. Even as freight rates drop, the volatility of schedules, port closures and seasonal pauses keeps shippers on edge.
On top of this, geopolitical flashpoints continue to add risk. The targeting of a Dutch-flagged vessel in the Gulf of Aden underscores the persistent vulnerability of shipping routes in the Red Sea corridor. Meanwhile, transatlantic trade faces a new wave of unpredictability: the US has published tariff exemptions under its deal with the EU, but simultaneously announced a 100% tariff on branded pharmaceuticals from October. With the Supreme Court set to weigh in on the legality of reciprocal tariffs, the policy outlook is anything but stable.
The common thread across these developments is clear: despite falling spot rates, global supply chains remain fragile. Port congestion, weather events, regional conflicts and shifting trade policies can rapidly create disruption and costs. For shippers, this means one thing above all: resilience and flexibility are not optional, but essential.
